Goodbye Port St. Joe!

It’s been an amazing few months here in Florida! While here, we feel we really made incredible memories and were able to enjoy all that the Forgotten Coast and all the hospitality the South has to offer. From the beaches of Cape San Blas and St. Joseph Pennisula State Park, we definitely got our swim and our tans on. Clark has become quite the angler, kayaking in the morning to fish the tall grasses in the shallows only to return with excellent speckled trout for us all to enjoy for lunch. The kiddos made some deep, long-lasting friendships, as have Clark and I. We’ve truly encountered it all on the trip so far; from the day-to-day work routine, finishing up school routine (the kiddos got all As and Ben even mastered the art of taking his first finals!), heartbreak of goodbyes, mastering our social distancing through the quarantine and closures, exploring our comfort levels with the re-openings, adding ample supplies to our first aid kit to treat the punishments doled out by the kids’ bike ramp, supporting ourselves through visits to the ER and doctors appointments away from home, being thankful for our online platforms to take care of family and business calls, new clients…you name it, we are rocking this roadtrip! We’ve been living life in a very BIG way. Everything about this trip has been spectacular. Alas, it’s time to leave the sunny beaches, windstorms, swampy wetlands, bugs, humidity and po-boys to those whose joy for them is deep within their souls.

Ben’s Thumbs Up!

The mountains are calling us home! Back to the land of my first love. I left my heart in Oregon.

While we initially intended to boondock as much as possible using Harvest Hosts, the weather just isn’t cooperating during our first few stops. With thunderstorms throughout Alabama and Mississippi, we realized that boondocking with 87% humidity and rain is outside of our desired list of ‘things to do’. We’re all about supporting local businesses as best we can while the country is re-opening, so you’ll still see us staying at a few Harvest Host wineries, a farm and a distillery! We’re also deeply grateful to the private RV parks and KOAs that have been upping their sanitation of their sites by wiping down hook ups at each and doing their best to stay open and safe for travelers like us who are on the road. It definitely takes a very large and well-oiled RV machine of like-minded people to make this work.

Our route is below. We are using a great online site called RV Trip Wizard and if you click HERE, you can see it all mapped out on their beta site. Any changes will be updated automatically. We leave Saturday, May 30th and try to make it to Wyoming by June 6th before slowing down and extending our stays a little longer. Clark wanted to see more of northern Montana and we all wanted to be in the mountains again. We still have renters in our home, so we will have a few extended stays in Montana and Oregon before we are home for good on July 3rd.
