School on the road

A few families have asked me about how we are managing the school aspect while on the road. We did entertain, at first, the concept of working remotely with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School (SFS), our kids’ school to date, but we thought it might be too difficult with our travel schedule. After researching a few options, we came up with Baker Charter Schools (BCS). They have a pretty strong track record for online academy work with modules which can be adapted to the student’s learning style.

We had a few options with curriculum to choose from with BCS, but ultimately ended up with Zearn Math for Izzy, ALEKS math for Ben and Florida Virtual for science, history and ELA. They use the STAR testing metrics just as SFS, so it was easy to use that as a guide for knowledge checks and placement. We have our own adviser and we have to do lists each day as well as uploads to show pacing against goals. We also have an activity sheet for Physical Education. The kiddos are doing keyboarding as their elective through Keyboarding Without Tears.

So far, we have been very happy and somewhat impressed with the level of interaction, creativity and explanations we have been provided with through the online mods. Let’s just say that online learning has come a long way since I took a few online classes in college. 🙂

Ben even got to borrow some headphones since he didn’t bring any today
Woo hoo! Keyboarding!

  1. Jenn, thank you for explaining the education plan you are following. I too have been wondering how Ben & Izzy are staying on top of their school work. Glad to hear it is going so well.👏👏
