After a quick stop at grandma and grandpa Limoges house, we headed another 7 hours to Mt Rushmore. We altered our trip canceling Papa Moon, Jarvis Family Farms and Jackson Hole Spirit’s now that more points of interest (museums, etc) are opening back up.
Even though the kiddos traveled through this part of the country last year on their epic cross-country trip with Gma and Gpa, they wanted to go again. For this stop, we stayed at the Mt Rushmore KOA Resort at Palmer Gulch.

There was so much to do and I definitely recommend this camp for families looking for a place to go for a week or more. Palmer Gulch is heralded as one of the top KOAs in the country and it is clear why. On site there was horseback riding- they had about 85 horses, mini golf, a small pond, a creek, a water slide, a huge jumping pillow, a splash pad, playground, bike rentals, ATV rentals, a pizza parlor, ice cream parlor, brewery and gift shop, pancake house and rodeo arena.
While some activities weren’t open yet, we likely wouldn’t have been able to fit it all in anyway! We voted on mini golf, horseback riding and ATVs before having dinner in Custer at Custer Wolf restaurant and then seeing Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore. We were 5 miles from Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore and 3 miles from Hill City. It was a busy, awesome day!

The kiddos still ran with us Friday morning and we all remembered what a little elevation does to the ol’ heart rate! Clark and I ran forest service road for about 3 miles on Saturday too. Riggs was so happy to run off leash. 🐕
Next stop, Cody Wyoming! We are taking 16 to I-90 and then back to 16 through Powder River Pass (elevation 9,666) in the Bighorn National Forest. Should be lots of big sky to see!
