The trip to Cody, Wyoming was an interesting one. We traveled along Hwy 16, caught up on interstate 90 and then back on 16. The scenery was majestic with massive snow topped mountains and dustings into the foothills. Much colder than usual for this time of year. All the roads were clear as we approached the apex of the pass at which point the temp dropped to 39 degrees and heavy rains ensued. Luckily we made it through before the fog rolled in.
We fared great, making it all the way through the pass. I thought I might get to play with the ‘fart button’ on the truck. No joke, that’s it’s nickname. It’s an Engine-Exhaust Braking Function assist feature when hauling heavy loads.

Then, about 30 minutes before getting to our campsite at the KOA in Cody, we ended up having to traverse on some random county road. Shame on us for not double checking Google Maps after we altered our route. Since we had been doing everything in RV Trip Wizard, we forgot to double check the route to filter for “no gravel/dirt roads” and found ourselves on some sparkling washboard dirt roads for about 5 miles. Yuck. At least we could commiserate with the class A behind us who also got sent on the same route- Cattle guards and all. 🐮 moo.
We got all set up at our site which seemed to be muddier and wetter than our neighbors. It took three chocks on one side to level. We figured the mud was from all the rain, and more was expected that evening. Lightning too! We got lucky and finished roasting marshmallows before the sky opened up.
The best part of the campsite was the kids! Lots of friends for the kids to swim and jump with- being socially distant of course. There was a great playground, basketball court and jumping pillow. There was also a game room complete with video games and claw crane game. Izzy managed to pull 6 stuffed animals out of that game without “losing her shirt”!
On Saturday, we went to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Museum. In many ways, it was similar to the High Desert Museum back in Bend, complete with a raptor education, but 4 times the size. Focus was on the Buffalo Bill, Native Americans, Natural Science and Geography and wildlife. We spent about 5 hours there and couldn’t see it all. We walked to three different restaurants, all of them not making the cut, before we got the tip to try out Millstone Pizza Company. Win!
You know what Ben and Izzy like the best about being back in the West? Not the dry air, not the big sky, not the cool weather. Nope. They missed the WATER! Simply the best tasting water is in the West. 💦 💧 🚿
We head to Dillon, MT next. Southside RV Park within walking distance of downtown Dillon and the University of Western Montana. A small creek runs through the camp and we will be right beside it!

I love following your journey home!!! Such a fantastic adventure!!! Enjoy and be safe out there!!! We love you all!
